German-born harpist Vanessa Wagner is one of the rising harpists of her generation. With a passion for the harp, she performs as a soloist, chamber musician and orchestral player. Her goal is to inspire other people with the magic of the harp and show the diversity of the instrument.
Die in Deutschland geborene Harfenistin Vanessa Wagner zählt zu den aufstrebenden Harfenisten ihrer Generation. Mit einer Leidenschaft für die Harfe tritt sie als Solistin, Kammermusikerin und Orchestermusikerin auf. Ihr Ziel ist es, andere Menschen mit der Magie der Harfe zu begeistern und die Vielfalt des Instruments zu zeigen.
Biography
Fascinated by the sound of a pink plastic toy harp, Vanessa received her first harp lessons at the age of eight from Angela Waldinger in Lenting. After performing Smetana’s Moldau with orchestra at the age of twelve, she decided to pursue a professional career as a harpist.
After graduating from high school, she studied at the renowned Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin in the class of Prof. Maria Graf, where she completed her Bachelor of Music in 2021. During her studies, she was awarded the Deutschlandstipendium twice in recognition of her outstanding academic achievements. She was also a scholarship holder of Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now Berlin e.V., performing regularly both as a soloist and in chamber music ensembles.
Following an Erasmus exchange at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London, she continued her studies there with Prof. Imogen Barford. She graduated with a Master of Performance (Guildhall Artist in Harp) in 2023. During this time, she was supported by the Leverhulme Trust Scholarship (2021–2023) and received the Help Musicians UK Postgraduate Award for the academic year 2022–23. In 2025, she completed her Master’s degree in Music Pedagogy with a specialization in Classical Harp at the Zurich University of the Arts under the guidance of Prof. Sarah O’Brien.
Vanessa has performed at renowned international festivals and competitions, including the World Harp Congress in Wales, the International Harp Competition in Hong Kong, the USA International Harp Competition, and the Young Euro Classic Festival in Berlin.
As a passionate chamber musician, she performs in various chamber music formations with flute, cello, and piano. With her twin sister Verena Wagner, she founded the Wagner Harp Duo, with which she performs internationally.
She has gained orchestral experience with Concerto Brandenburg, Neue Philharmonie Berlin, and Kammerata Berlin, as well as through the Orchestral Artistry programme of the London Symphony Orchestra. Her performances have taken her to prestigious venues including the Philharmonie Berlin (Großer and Kleiner Saal), Konzerthaus Berlin, Gasteig Munich, Festhalle Frankfurt, El Born Barcelona, Barbican Concert Hall London, Milton Court Concert Hall London, and LSO St Luke’s London.
As a passionate teacher, Vanessa teaches at the Musikschule St. Gallen, the Kantonsschule am Burggraben St. Gallen, and the Musikschule Kreuzlingen. She is a board member of Swiss Harp, the Harp association of Switzerland.
Fasziniert vom Klang einer rosa Plastikspielharfe erhielt Vanessa im Alter von 8 Jahren ihren ersten Harfenunterricht von Angela Waldinger in Lenting. Als sie mit 12 Jahren "Die Moldau" mit Orchester spielte, entschied sie sich, professionelle Harfenistin zu werden.
Nach dem Abitur studierte sie an der renommierten Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin in der Klasse von Prof. Maria Graf. Dort schloss sie 2021 ihren Bachelor of Music ab. Während ihres Studiums wurde sie zweimal mit dem Deutschlandstipendium für ihre herausragenden akademischen Leistungen ausgezeichnet. Zudem war sie Stipendiatin von Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now Berlin e.V. und konzertierte regelmäßig sowohl solistisch als auch in verschiedenen Kammermusikensembles.
Nach einem Erasmus-Aufenthalt an der Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London setzte sie ihr Studium bei Prof. Imogen Barford fort. 2023 schloss sie dort den Master of Performance (Guildhall Artist in Harp) ab. In dieser Zeit wurde sie durch das Leverhulme Trust Scholarship (2021–2023) sowie das Help Musicians UK Postgraduate Award für das Studienjahr 2022–23 gefördert. 2025 absolvierte sie ihren Master in Musikpädagogik mit Schwerpunkt klassische Harfe an der Zürcher Hochschule der Künste bei Prof. Sarah O’Brien.
Vanessa trat bei renommierten internationalen Festivals und Wettbewerben auf, darunter der World Harp Congress in Wales, die International Harp Competition in Hong Kong, die USA International Harp Competition sowie das Young Euro Classic Festival in Berlin.
Als leidenschaftliche Kammermusikerin konzertiert sie in verschiedenen Besetzungen mit Flöte, Cello und Klavier. Mit ihrer Zwillingsschwester Verena Wagner gründete sie das Wagner Harp Duo, welches international auftritt.
Orchestererfahrung sammelte sie unter anderem mit dem Concerto Brandenburg, der Neuen Philharmonie Berlin und der Kammerata Berlin sowie im Rahmen des Orchestral Artistry Programms des London Symphony Orchestra. Konzertauftritte führten sie in renommierte Säle wie die Philharmonie Berlin (Großer und Kleiner Saal), das Konzerthaus Berlin, den Gasteig München, die Festhalle Frankfurt, El Born Barcelona, die Barbican Concert Hall London, die Milton Court Concert Hall London sowie LSO St Luke’s London.
Als engagierte Pädagogin unterrichtet Vanessa an der Musikschule St. Gallen, der Kantonsschule am Burggraben St. Gallen sowie an der Musikschule Kreuzlingen. Sie ist im Vorstand von Swiss Harp, der Schweizer Harfenvereinigung.
